Play is how young children make sense of the world. When they stack blocks, cook pretend meals, or sort leaves on a walk, they are experimenting, solving problems, and practising new words.
Everyday play ideas
Build towers and talk about tall, short, wobbly, and strong.
Set up a pretend kitchen and take turns being the chef.
Sort socks, buttons, or toys by colour or size.
Collect natural treasures outside and count them together.
Follow your child’s lead
You do not need special equipment. Notice what interests your child and add a simple question or challenge, like “What could we use to make it taller?”
These small moments add up to big discoveries.
